I have been an artist practically since the crib, and graduated with a BFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I also have a BA in English and an AA in Fine Art. In addition to these subjects, I have studied web design, graphic design, traditional animation, 3D modeling and animation, photography, interior design, psychology, several foreign languages, a little bit of programming (especially programming for the web)…and more. And I continue to paint. You can see some of my fine artwork here: Marilyn Fenn Studio.

I started creating visual design for the web at IBM in 1994, and began creating complete web sites in 2000, many of which have won awards. I also have over 20 years experience creating technical illustrations, having begun when the standard tools were rapidograph pens on linen, mylar and vellum. I began using a computer as a tool for design and illustration in the early 80’s…and haven’t stopped.

I gained a lot of my experience in design and interactivity working in the Information Design and Development and Ease-of-Use departments at IBM Austin, and after that, in the Marketing department at Austin Regional Clinic.

I have worked in design and illustration positions at the following companies:

  • Austin Regional Clinic, Marketing
  • IBM Austin
  • Stokes Imaging Services
  • The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Media Department
  • Execucom Corporation
  • Lockheed
  • Rockwell International
  • and various smaller enterprises

I began freelancing full-time in 2002. My clients range from individual artists and small businesses to large organizations, companies and government institutions. You can view my client list (so far) and the types of projects I have created for them.
